Siyanda Ndlovu targets more trophies and PSG after Sundowns birthday triumph

Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Siyanda Ndlovu has set his sights on further silverware and a potential meeting with Paris Saint-Germain after celebrating his first trophy with the club on his 24th birthday.

Ndlovu joined Sundowns from Golden Arrows during the current transfer window and has quickly become part of head coach Miguel Cardoso’s plans.

He was involved as the Tshwane club won the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup on Saturday, with Sundowns beating Al Ahli Saudi 2-1 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

The attacker came on as a substitute for the final eight minutes, but the victory had added significance because it fell on his birthday. Ndlovu therefore marked turning 24 by lifting his first trophy as a Sundowns player.

The former Golden Arrows player said he found it difficult to describe his feelings after such a memorable day.

“I don’t even know what to say, the way I’m so happy,” Ndlovu said on Sundowns TV.

“And this happened during my birthday, it’s massive to me. I’m so happy.”

Having begun his Sundowns career with a major honour, Ndlovu is now aiming to add more trophies during a demanding season.

The Brazilians remain involved in several domestic and continental competitions, while their win against Al Ahli has also kept their hopes of reaching the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final alive.

Sundowns must first beat the winner of the Derby of the Americas to progress to the final, where European champions Paris Saint-Germain are waiting.

The possibility of facing PSG has given Ndlovu another incentive as he looks ahead to the rest of the campaign.

“I’m looking forward to winning even more trophies this season. We have just started with this one, and it’s ‘FIFA’ special one, we must go on to other ones.

“We want to play PSG eventually and that’s where we’re going.”

Ndlovu’s arrival at Sundowns has therefore produced an immediate highlight, with the attacker winning silverware only months after leaving Golden Arrows.

The FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup has provided a memorable start to his time with the Brazilians, but Ndlovu wants the birthday triumph to be the first of several achievements in his opening season at the club.
