AFCON 2027 qualifiers: Togo set to face Burundi in Group I opener

Togo will launch their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign against Burundi on Friday, September 25, with the Group I encounter scheduled for 4:00 PM GMT at the Kégué Stadium in Lomé.

The Hawks will be hoping to make a positive start in front of their home supporters as they begin their qualification journey.

Coach Patrice Neveu has named a squad combining experienced internationals, returning players and a new face. Henri Koudossou is included for the first time at senior level, while Augustin Drakpé, Youssifou Atté, Kodjo Aziangbé and Yaw Annor have returned to the national team. Kévin Denkey, Kodjo Fodoh Laba and Djene Dakonam are among the established names expected to provide experience.

Burundi, meanwhile, arrive with their own ambitions and will look to frustrate the hosts while securing a strong result away from home. Their squad includes players based across Europe, Africa and other international leagues.

The match is particularly important because both teams are competing in a group that also contains Algeria and Zambia. CAF’s schedule confirms Togo will host Burundi on September 25 before travelling to Zambia four days later.

With both sides seeking an early advantage, the Kégué Stadium encounter promises a competitive start to Group I.
