David Alaba agrees deal to join Udinese as a free agent

Fabrizio Romano says David Alaba has reached a verbal agreement to join Udinese, with the former Real Madrid defender set to move to the Italian club on a free transfer.

Romano, the Sky Sports journalist, announced the development on X, saying: “Udinese have reached a verbal agreement with David Alaba.”

The 34-year-old Austria international became a free agent after leaving Real Madrid at the end of the previous season, when his contract with the Spanish club expired.

Romano added: “Alaba is an ideal signing for the Italian club, and only the formal steps remain before the deal is announced.”

Alaba began his career in the youth system at Austria Vienna before moving to Bayern Munich. He made his first-team debut for the Bavarian club in the summer of 2010.

He joined Real Madrid as a free agent in the summer of 2021 and spent five years with the club.

During his career, Alaba has led Austria and made 117 international appearances, scoring 15 goals.

He has won the Champions League four times, claiming the trophy twice with Bayern Munich and twice with Real Madrid. He has also lifted the UEFA Super Cup three times – twice with Bayern Munich and once with Real Madrid – and the FIFA Club World Cup on three occasions, two with Bayern Munich and one with Real Madrid.

His honours with Bayern Munich also include 10 Bundesliga titles, six German Cups and five German Super Cups.

Alaba has been named Austria’s Player of the Year 10 times.
