Henri Koudoussou embraces emotional first Togo call-up for 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

Henri Koudoussou says he is proud to have finally been called up by Togo for the first time as the Eperviers begin their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign.

The defender has been encouraged by the warm welcome he has received from his new team-mates and from supporters in the streets of Lome. For Koudoussou, representing Togo is about more than football, with his first appearance for the national team carrying a deeply personal significance.

“I like being here. It is enjoyable to meet the group and I am proud to represent the country,” he said.

“I can feel the energy in the streets, but also within the team. I simply want to be part of it. It was time. I wanted to play for the country and for my father. I am very proud.

“I want to help the team, give everything and contribute to our qualification for the CAN.”

Koudoussou is determined to settle quickly into the squad and understands that the qualifying campaign will demand strong performances both at home and away. He has also recognised the importance of the supporters ahead of Friday’s match and called on them to back the team at the stadium.

“Away matches are always difficult. I am new to the national team and I have never played an away match with the team before, so this will be a new experience for me,” he said.

“But we will make this trip together, as a team, with the aim of getting the best possible result.

“I hope you will come and support us this Friday. We need every one of you at the stadium. We need your energy so that we can give ours on the pitch. I really hope to see many of you there.”
