Morocco recall Ilias Akhomach for September qualifiers

Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has added Villarreal forward Ilias Akhomach to the Atlas Lions’ squad for their September camp.

Akhomach was not included in Morocco’s World Cup squad under Ouahbi. His most recent appearance for the national team came at the Africa Cup of Nations in December 2025.

The Villarreal player featured as a substitute against Zambia in the group stage, Nigeria in the semi-final and Senegal in the final.

Morocco are preparing for two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, facing Gabon and Lesotho later this month. They will also play Ghana in a friendly in October.

Midfielders: Ayoub Bouaddi, Samir El Mourabet, Neil El Aynaoui, Oussama Targhalline, Bilal El Khannouss, Sofiane El Fouzai, Azzedine Ounahi, Ismael Saibari

Forwards: Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, Abdellah Ouazane, Brahim Diaz, Yassine Gessim, Yasser Zabiri, Soufiane Rahimi, Tawfik Ben Taieb

Morocco will play Gabon on Friday, 25 September, at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

They then face Lesotho on 29 September in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

The national team’s schedule concludes with a friendly against Ghana in Tangier on 4 October.
