Samba Diawara joins AJ Auxerre as assistant coach

AJ Auxerre have appointed Samba Diawara as an assistant coach, adding the experienced Franco-Malian technician to Will Still’s staff.

The 48-year-old returns to a familiar working relationship with Still after the pair spent two seasons together at Reims between 2022 and 2024. During his time with the Champagne club, Diawara also briefly took charge as caretaker manager, giving him valuable experience in a leading role.

Auxerre confirmed the appointment through the club’s official social media channels. “AJ Auxerre are pleased to announce the arrival of Samba Diawara to the coaching staff as assistant coach,” the club stated.

Diawara replaces Jean-Alain Boumsong, who left the club during the summer. His arrival gives Still another trusted voice and adds experience to an expanded coaching team that includes Nicolas Still, Djibril Cissé, Barthélémy Delecroix, Clément Lemaître and Simon Pouplin.

For Diawara, the move represents an opportunity to work again with a coach who already understands his methods and personality. Their previous partnership at Reims provides a useful foundation as Auxerre continue their Ligue 1 campaign.

The new assistant will now focus on helping prepare the squad, improving individual performances and supporting Still’s tactical plans throughout the season.
