Kenyan officials appointed for Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed a Kenyan refereeing team for Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Angola at Cairo Stadium on Friday, 25 September.

Peter Waweru Kamaku will referee the Group B fixture, which is scheduled to kick off at 22:00 local time.

He will be assisted by Stephen Eleazar Onyango Yembe and Gilbert Kipkoech Cheruiyot, while Dickens Mimesa Nyagruwa has been named as the fourth official.

The appointment gives Waweru another assignment involving Egypt. The 44-year-old previously took charge of the national team’s 2-1 victory over Burkina Faso in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in June 2024.

He also refereed Egypt’s meeting with Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations Under-23 tournament. Morocco won that match 2-1, with Egypt’s Mahmoud Saber sent off in the 18th minute.

Waweru has also officiated four matches involving Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League, as well as one match featuring Pyramids in the same competition. He has additionally refereed two games involving Zamalek in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Egypt are in Group B of the qualifying competition alongside Angola, South Sudan and Malawi.

After opening their campaign against Angola in Cairo on Friday, Egypt will travel to face South Sudan on 29 September. That match is due to begin at 15:00 Cairo time.

Egypt are also scheduled to play South Africa in a friendly on 4 October.

The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The tournament is scheduled to take place from 19 June to 17 July 2027.
