Leipzig renew pursuit of Morocco midfielder El Morabet as Strasbourg set €35m price

Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have renewed their interest in Morocco midfielder Samir El Morabet, with Strasbourg reportedly valuing the 20-year-old at about €35m.

According to French sports website Le10 Sport, Leipzig held talks with Strasbourg over a possible move for El Morabet during the summer transfer window, but the French club opted to keep the midfielder for the 2025-26 season.

El Morabet was reportedly open to a move to Germany, but Leipzig eventually switched their attention to another Moroccan midfielder, Neil El Aynaoui, who joined the Bundesliga club from AS Roma.

The report says El Morabet remains on Leipzig’s radar, with a January move potentially requiring a substantial investment.

Strasbourg hold strong position over Morocco international

Strasbourg are reportedly demanding around €35m for El Morabet, who is contracted to the French club until June 2030.

The length of his contract gives Strasbourg significant leverage should Leipzig or another club make a formal approach for the midfielder during the January transfer window.

El Morabet has emerged as an important player for Strasbourg since progressing through the club’s youth system and making the transition to senior football.

He signed his first professional contract before becoming a regular member of the first-team squad during the 2025-26 campaign.

Under English manager Liam Rosenior, El Morabet made 48 appearances in all competitions last season.

He also made an impact in European competition, scoring four goals in the UEFA Conference League as Strasbourg gained valuable experience on the continental stage.

Morocco World Cup experience adds to profile

El Morabet was included in Morocco’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Atlas Lions reached the quarter-finals.

The tournament gave the young midfielder further experience at international level and increased his exposure to clubs monitoring his development.

At 20, El Morabet has already combined regular first-team football in France with European and World Cup experience, factors that have helped attract interest from Leipzig and other clubs outside Franc
