Galatasaray consider January move for Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga

Galatasaray are monitoring Eduardo Camavinga as a possible January signing, although neither the French midfielder nor Real Madrid is currently considering a departure, according to reports.

Camavinga’s role at Real Madrid has declined and he is no longer among manager Jose Mourinho’s preferred options for the starting XI. The 2021-22 season’s UEFA Champions League breakthrough now appears increasingly distant, with the midfielder having made only six appearances this season and making a limited contribution in those outings.

Real Madrid have lacked the influential midfield presence many observers have called for, but Camavinga has been unable to take advantage of that opportunity. His reduced status follows a summer in which he was widely regarded as one of the clear candidates to leave the club.

The 2021-22 season’s UEFA Champions League breakthrough now appears increasingly distant, with the midfielder having made only six appearances this season and making a limited contribution in those outings.

Camavinga joined Real Madrid at the end of the 2021 summer transfer window and immediately made a strong impression. His performances during that campaign, particularly in the UEFA Champions League, suggested he had a bright future ahead of him.

He also produced a number of good displays at left-back in the seasons that followed, when he was used outside his natural midfield role. However, his performances gradually declined over time, while his development failed to progress as expected.

During last season, Camavinga was frequently the subject of criticism at Galatasaray. With his progress viewed as limited and his failure to provide the solutions required in midfield, he has gradually moved towards the margins of the squad.

Mourinho has consequently made little use of the France international so far this season, prompting renewed speculation about his next destination.

French outlet Foot Mercato reported that the situation had fuelled fresh rumours, including claims from Turkish website Fanatik that Galatasaray are interested in Camavinga.

“Galatasaray have put the French player on their radar and intend to bring him to the club next January,” the report said.

It added: “Despite that, neither Camavinga nor Real Madrid are considering his departure, at least for now.”

That position could still change over the coming months if the midfielder remains outside Mourinho’s plans and Galatasaray formalise their interest. For the moment, however, the possibility of a January move remains a matter of reported interest rather than an active transfer negotiation.
