Egypt’s 2009-born youth team arrive in Switzerland for Friendship International Tournament

Egypt’s youth team born in 2009 have arrived in Switzerland to take part in the Friendship International Tournament, following a five-hour flight.

The squad were met at Geneva Airport by Ziad Naseem, Egypt’s consul in Switzerland, as they began the next stage of their preparations for the FIFA World Cup in November.

The tournament will be played from 24 September to 3 October. Egypt will face South Korea, England and Colombia, before completing their schedule with a fourth match in the final phase.

The trip follows the conclusion of the team’s training camp, which began on 7 September at the National Teams Centre.

Egypt are using the tournament as part of a wider preparations programme ahead of the World Cup. After their matches in Switzerland, the team will compete in the Gulf Under-17 Cup, scheduled to take place in the middle of October, with the aim of gaining further competitive experience before the global tournament.

The delegation are due to return to Cairo on 4 October, having played all four of their matches in Switzerland.

Egypt squad

The 22-player squad selected for the tournament is:

Goalkeepers: Malek Amr, Mohamed Obaid, Abdel Aziz Mahmoud.

Defenders: Mohamed El-Sayed, Adel Alaa, Adam Youssef, Amir Hassan, Mohamed Sabry, Abdullah Amr.

Midfielders: Ahmed Bashir, Omar Abdel Rahim, Mohannad Magdy, Seif Karim, Mohamed Gamal, Youssef Abdullah, Ziad Saudi, Daniel Tamer, Ahmed Safwat, Adham Haseeb.

Forwards: Khaled Mokhtar, Amir Abou El-Ezz, Khaled Mahmoud.

Hussein Abdel Latif is the team’s head coach, with Ayman Hafez serving as administrative director.

The delegation is led by Waleed Darwish, a member of the Egyptian Football Association board and the general supervisor of the team.
