Tottenham back Omar Marmoush ahead of Egypt’s AFCON qualifying campaign

Tottenham Hotspur have thrown their support behind Egyptian international Omar Marmoush as the forward links up with the Pharaohs ahead of the start of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Marmoush is currently with the Egyptian national team as Hossam Hassan’s side prepares for a busy international period, with the Tottenham forward expected to be an important figure in the team’s attacking plans.

Egypt are set to begin their AFCON qualifying campaign against Angola next Friday in the opening round, as Hassan’s side looks to make a positive start to their bid to secure qualification for the continental tournament.

The Pharaohs will then return to action on Tuesday when they face South Sudan in the second round of the qualifiers.

Marmoush joined the Egyptian camp a few days ago after linking up with his international teammates and has been involved in preparations ahead of the opening qualifying fixtures.

The forward’s presence gives Egypt another attacking option as Hassan works on his plans for the upcoming matches. Marmoush has established himself as an important part of the national team setup and will be looking to carry his club form into international duty.

Egypt will also conclude their current international training camp with a friendly against South Africa on October 4 at the Cairo International Stadium.

The fixture will provide Hassan with another opportunity to assess his players and fine-tune his squad as preparations continue for the African campaign.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have publicly acknowledged Marmoush’s international assignment and sent him a message of support through their official account on X.

The Premier League club posted “Omar Marmoush’s mission towards the Pharaohs,” alongside photographs of the Egyptian forward taking part in a training session with the national team.

The social media post highlighted Marmoush’s commitment to Egypt at a crucial stage of the international calendar, with the forward now focused on helping the Pharaohs negotiate their opening AFCON qualifying assignments.

With Angola and South Sudan standing between Egypt and a strong start to the qualifying campaign, Marmoush will be hoping to make his presence felt and contribute to the national team’s push for a place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
