Brahim Hemdani targets consistency as new Algeria coach

Algeria coach Brahim Hemdani says he wants to build a settled starting XI as he begins his tenure with the Fennecs ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Hemdani outlined his plans during his first press conference as Algeria manager, making clear that he wants to avoid making frequent changes to his line-up from one match to the next.

The new coach believes establishing a consistent team will be an important part of developing the side and creating a clear structure within the squad.

“For every coach, the primary mission is to find and strive for an organization and a composition that are consistent from one match to the next ,” he said.

Hemdani’s approach is based on finding a group of players who can form the core of the team rather than constantly changing the starting line-up.

However, the coach also recognises that international football can make such consistency difficult to achieve. Injuries and suspensions can leave coaches without key players and force them to make changes to their preferred team.

That means Hemdani will need to have alternatives ready while still trying to maintain as much stability as possible.

His plan is therefore to develop a wider group of players who can step into the team when required, while keeping the overall structure of the side largely unchanged.

The balance between continuity and the demands of international football will be central to Hemdani’s early work with Algeria.

The coach wants his players to become familiar with their roles and with each other, something he believes would be more difficult if the line-up was constantly being altered.

“If it changes every other day, it’s much more complicated ,” he stressed.

Hemdani’s comments underline his intention to establish a clear first-choice team while ensuring Algeria have enough depth to cope with the absences that can arise during international competition.

As preparations continue for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, the new Algeria coach will now look to put that philosophy into practice and develop a side built around greater consistency from one match to the next.
