African Stars appoint Gerald Güther after Ronnie Kanalelo’s departure

Namibian side African Stars have appointed Gerald Güther as their new head coach following the departure of Ronnie Kanalelo.

Kanalelo’s spell at the club was short-lived, with the coach leaving to join South African side Marumo Gallants while African Stars were still involved in the CAF Champions League.

Güther now takes charge at a crucial stage of the campaign, with the Samba Boys preparing for the new Namibian Premier League season and a difficult continental assignment against Orlando Pirates.

African Stars will face the South African giants in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, with Güther’s appointment coming ahead of the highly anticipated tie.

Announcing the appointment, African Stars said: “African Stars Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Gerald Güther as the club’s new Head Coach.”

The club added: “Güther takes charge as the Stars prepare for the Premier League season and the highly anticipated CAF Champions League clash against Orlando Pirates.

“A new chapter begins. The mission continues.”

Güther will therefore have little time to settle into his new role as African Stars look to maintain their domestic ambitions while also negotiating a demanding Champions League challenge against Pirates.
