Morocco steps up 2030 World Cup final campaign as Lekjaa backs Hassan II Stadium

Royal Moroccan Football Federation president Fouzi Lekjaa has renewed Morocco’s campaign to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup final at the planned Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane.

Speaking at a communication meeting organised by the Authenticity and Modernity Party in Benslimane Province, Lekjaa called for national support behind Morocco’s efforts to bring the tournament’s showpiece match to the country.

“At the Benslimane stadium, we will mobilise all our institutions and all Moroccans to host the 2030 World Cup final, whether they like it or not,” Lekjaa said.

Hassan II Stadium at centre of Morocco bid

Lekjaa also linked the proposed stadium to the wider development of Benslimane, describing the province as a future hub for major infrastructure projects.

“By hosting this landmark stadium, Benslimane Province will become the beating heart and a center of development for the infrastructure that will be built,” he added.

The Hassan II Stadium is currently under construction in Benslimane Province and is expected to have a capacity of around 115,000 spectators.

Morocco has identified the venue as its preferred option for the World Cup final, although Spanish football officials have also expressed interest in hosting the match at a stadium in Spain.

Morocco continues to defend final bid

Morocco will co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal, but FIFA has yet to determine where the final will be played.

The governing body has said the decision will be made through its established process and has not confirmed any of the competing bids.

Lekjaa recently told Jeune Afrique that Morocco would continue defending its case for the final, while stressing that the three host nations should approach the tournament through cooperation rather than rivalry.

He described Morocco, Spain and Portugal as partners connecting different cultures and regions, while maintaining that Morocco would continue to make its case for the decisive match to be played at the Hassan II Stadium.

Lekjaa highlights wider African opportunities

The FRMF president has previously linked the 2030 tournament to opportunities beyond the football pitch, particularly for young Moroccans and Africans.

He said the event could support training, skills development, entrepreneurship and business opportunities.

With FIFA yet to decide the venue for the final, Morocco’s campaign remains ongoing, with the proposed Hassan II Stadium continuing to sit at the centre of the country’s ambitions for the tournament’s biggest match.
