Al Ahly plot two-year contract extension for Mohamed El Shenawy

Al Ahly are looking to use Mohamed El Shenawy’s absence from the Egypt national team camp to hold talks with the veteran goalkeeper over a contract extension.

The Egyptian giants are keen to keep El Shenawy for another two seasons as they seek to retain one of the most influential figures in their squad and dressing room.

As per reports, Al Ahly are expected to meet with the goalkeeper during his absence from the national team camp to discuss the details of a new contract and attempt to reach an agreement.

The club’s management highly values El Shenawy’s contribution over the years, with his experience, leadership and influence in the dressing room regarded as important factors behind the desire to extend his stay at the club.

The proposed renewal is expected to follow Al Ahly’s current financial structure, with the possibility of El Shenawy receiving a percentage of advertising revenue as part of the agreement.

The 37-year-old has established himself as one of Al Ahly’s most important players of the modern era after joining the club from Petrojet in 2016.

El Shenawy initially had to compete for the starting position before gradually becoming the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and eventually taking over the captaincy.

Since then, he has played a significant role in Al Ahly’s success in domestic and continental competitions, including the CAF Champions League, Egyptian Premier League and Egypt Cup.

His leadership has also extended to the international stage, where he has represented Egypt in several major tournaments.

With his current contract situation becoming a priority, Al Ahly are hoping to reach an agreement with their captain and secure his services for two more seasons.
