FCSB reach agreement with Esperance coach Laurentiu Reghecampf, says owner

Gigi Becali, owner of Romanian club FCSB – formerly known as Steaua Bucharest – says he has reached an agreement with Esperance de Tunis manager Laurentiu Reghecampf to take charge of the team.

Becali told Romanian website Fanatik that Reghecampf had agreed to become FCSB’s new manager, raising questions over the Romanian’s future with the Tunisian club.

The development follows a difficult result for FCSB, who were beaten 5-0 by Craiova in the 10th round of the Romanian league. The defeat left the club 10th in the table with 12 points from 120 matches.

Becali also said he was prepared to pay the 150,000 euros release clause in Reghecampf’s contract with Esperance de Tunis to complete the move.

However, Reghecampf’s immediate future is expected to be discussed in a meeting with Esperance de Tunis president Hamdi Meddeb. Tunisian radio station Mosaique FM reported that the meeting would take place today, with the club set to decide whether the coach will remain in charge.

Reghecampf left Al-Hilal of Sudan only a few days after renewing his contract with the club before moving to Esperance de Tunis in June.

Tunisian media have since reported that several managers are being considered as possible replacements should the Romanian depart. The names mentioned include Jalel Kadri, who is currently manager of Saudi Arabian club Al-Hazem, as well as another Serbian coach whose identity was not disclosed.

Esperance de Tunis are fourth in the Tunisian league standings with nine points from four matches. Their record so far consists of three victories and one defeat.

The club are also preparing to face Libya’s Al-Swehly in the preliminary round, or round of 32, of the CAF Champions League.
