Mohamed Salah’s ‘rock’ in Turkey becomes tourist attraction after Trabzon visit

A rock where Mohamed Salah sat during a visit to Trabzon has become an unexpected tourist attraction, with supporters and visitors travelling to the site to take photographs and recreate the Egypt captain’s pose.

The rock is located on Kurtderi Plateau in Trabzon province, in north-eastern Turkey. Salah shared photographs from his visit on social media, including images of him sitting on one of the rocks in the area.

The pictures quickly spread online, prompting fans and tourists to search for the exact spot where the Liverpool forward had been photographed. The rock was subsequently given the nickname “Salah Tası”, meaning “Salah’s rock” in Turkish.

What had been an ordinary rock on the plateau has since become associated with the Egyptian star and is now drawing visitors hoping to take their own pictures at the location.

According to Al Jazeera, Turkish media outlets reported several humorous reactions from local residents. In one exchange, a journalist asked the owner of a nearby establishment whether the area could be renamed “Salah Plateau”. She responded jokingly that the establishments were her own “Subası” businesses.

The owner of a shop close to the rock also sent Salah an informal invitation. He said he hoped the player would visit him so they could meet and share a cup of tea.

As interest in the location has continued, Turkish platforms have published videos explaining how to reach the plateau visited by Salah. Reports also said that an information sign had been installed to guide people wanting to find the site and take photographs beside “Salah’s rock”.

The attraction follows a short period in which Salah had also made headlines in Turkey for his performances in a Trabzonspor shirt.

He helped Trabzonspor to a 4-0 victory over Galatasaray, scoring three goals and providing the assist for another. That display made him the subject of widespread attention among Turkish media outlets and supporters.

A post by XTG Spor on 20 September 2026 showed the route to the plateau under the Turkish caption: “How do you get to the plateau Mohamed Salah visited? We have explained it for you and placed the sign.”

The sudden interest in the site reflects the popularity Salah enjoys in Turkey, where a simple moment from his visit has turned a natural landmark into a destination linked to the Egyptian footballer.
