Ghana striker Prince Adu Kwabena suffers head injury ahead of AFCON 2027 qualifiers

Ghana forward Prince Adu Kwabena is facing an anxious wait over his availability for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after suffering an injury setback while on club duty in the Czech Republic.

The Black Stars attacker was forced off after sustaining a head injury during Viktoria Plzen’s league encounter against Slavia Prague on Sunday.

Adu Kwabena started the match on the bench before being introduced in the 70th minute as Viktoria Plzen battled to get back into the game.

However, his involvement was cut short late in the encounter after he suffered the injury and had to be stretched off the pitch in the 90th minute.

Viktoria Plzen eventually suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Slavia Prague in the ninth round of the Czech Republic top-flight, with Adu Kwabena unable to finish the game.

The injury has now raised concerns over his availability for Ghana’s upcoming international assignments, with the technical team expected to monitor his condition closely before making a decision on his involvement.

The former Bechem United forward has been part of Ghana’s plans and could be an important option in attack if he recovers in time for the qualifiers.

Ghana are scheduled to face Ivory Coast away from home on September 24 in a crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying encounter before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 29.

The Black Stars will then round off the international window with a friendly against Morocco, giving head coach Carlos Queiroz another opportunity to assess his squad ahead of future assignments.

For now, Adu Kwabena will be hoping for a positive medical assessment as Ghana await further updates on the extent of the head injury.
