Yankuba Minteh remains on Liverpool’s radar after failed summer move

Liverpool remain interested in Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, with the club’s scouts continuing to monitor the Gambian’s progress ahead of the winter transfer window.

Minteh was considered by Liverpool during the summer transfer window and could emerge as an option again in the coming months, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The 22-year-old was among the attacking players Liverpool looked at as they considered strengthening their forward options. Bradley Barcola and Víctor Muñoz were also reportedly on their list.

TalkSPORT reported that Liverpool could have made an offer of up to £60 million, approximately €70 million, for Minteh.

Brighton, however, were reportedly looking for £80 million, around €93.5 million, for the Gambian winger.

The difference between the two valuations prevented an agreement from being reached during the summer window.

Minteh’s physical condition was also a factor in Liverpool’s decision to put the situation on hold.

The winger has yet to make an appearance this season because of a foot injury, meaning his return to competitive football could be important to any future interest from Liverpool.

According to Tavolieri, Liverpool’s scouts are continuing to follow the player’s recovery and progress.

His return to action is expected to provide a clearer indication of whether he can meet Liverpool’s requirements before the winter transfer window.

No new offer has been announced at this stage, leaving Liverpool’s interest at the monitoring stage.

Minteh joined Brighton from Newcastle United in the summer of 2024 in a deal worth approximately €35 million.

The Gambian international remains under contract with Brighton until 30 June 2029.

Since joining the Seagulls, Minteh has made 79 appearances, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists.

Those figures have kept him on the radar of Liverpool, but any renewed interest during the winter window is expected to depend heavily on his fitness and performances after returning from injury.

For now, Liverpool’s scouts will continue to follow his situation as Minteh works towards a return to competitive action.

The winger’s physical condition and performances in the period following his comeback could play an important role in determining whether Liverpool decide to pursue the player again.

The summer interest did not result in a deal because of the gap between Liverpool’s reported valuation and Brighton’s asking price, while Minteh’s fitness also complicated the situation.

With the winter transfer window approaching, Liverpool have not made a new offer, but their continued monitoring means the Gambian remains a player of interest.
