Wahib Al-Antri switches international allegiance from Egypt to Morocco

Wahib Al-Antri, the Angers midfielder, has chosen to represent Morocco after previously appearing for Egypt’s youth teams.

The decision means Al-Antri will join Morocco Under-17s rather than continue with Egypt, according to Moroccan website Sport7.

The Egyptian Football Association was reportedly surprised when the player declined to attend Egypt Under-20s’ training camp. He subsequently opted to represent Morocco Under-17s, who are coached by Ahmed Kantari.

Al-Antri is eligible to play for both countries because he has Egyptian and Moroccan heritage. His father is Egyptian and his mother is Moroccan.

The midfielder had previously featured for Egypt’s youth sides, but has now decided to begin a new chapter in his international career by wearing Morocco’s colours.
