Mohamed Abou Gabal’s Morocco Tetouan registration delayed by outstanding payments

Mohamed Abou Gabal is waiting for his registration with Morocco Athletic Tetouan to be completed after the club signed the former Modern Sport goalkeeper on a one-year contract.

FilGoal.com understands that the Moroccan club was temporarily prevented from registering new players because of unpaid dues owed to one of its former players.

Morocco Athletic Tetouan has paid the outstanding amount in an attempt to have the registration ban lifted, but had not initially settled the associated interest. The club is expected to pay that interest, after which Abou Gabal should be registered normally.

The club previously announced the Egypt international’s arrival. In a statement on its website, Morocco Athletic Tetouan said: “Morocco Athletic Tetouan completed today, Wednesday, the procedures to sign the Egyptian international goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal to strengthen the team for the current sporting season.”

It added: “The contract was signed by the club president, Mohamed Jadouni, in the presence of members of the board of directors, alongside the player’s representative, in an atmosphere reflecting the official nature of the conclusion of the agreement.”

The club described Abou Gabal’s international experience with Egypt as an important addition in goal and said he was one of the leading names in its new project.

Abou Gabal left Modern Sport at the end of last season. The 37-year-old began his career with ENPPI before moving to Zamalek. He later played for Smouha, returned to Zamalek, and then joined National Bank of Egypt and Modern Sport.

He has made 296 appearances for Egyptian clubs, conceding 288 goals and recording 109 clean sheets.

The move to Morocco Athletic Tetouan will be the goalkeeper’s first experience outside Egypt if his registration is completed successfully.
