Simeone races to Atletico dressing room after dramatic Madrid derby win

Diego Simeone celebrated Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in emphatic fashion, sprinting towards the dressing room immediately after Sunday’s Spanish league meeting.

The derby, played in the seventh round of the competition, had initially been evenly balanced. However, the dismissal of Dean Huijsen at the start of the second half changed the course of the match and helped Atletico secure a valuable victory over their city rivals.

The result leaves Real Madrid six points behind leaders Barcelona.

As soon as the referee brought the game to an end, Simeone ran and jumped in front of the Atletico supporters, who responded with applause. The Argentine appeared to release the tension of a fiercely contested derby through his animated celebrations.

Rather than crossing the pitch to shake hands with Jose Mourinho, the Real Madrid manager, Simeone immediately made his way towards the tunnel. He continued jumping as he ran into the Metropolitano stadium dressing-room area.

Mourinho, meanwhile, went on to the pitch to greet the Real Madrid players despite the heavy defeat.
