Achraf Hakimi misses Paris Saint-Germain squad for Olympique de Marseille clash

Achraf Hakimi has been left out of the Paris Saint-Germain squad for Sunday’s French clasico against Olympique de Marseille after suffering a thigh injury.

The two sides meet in the headline fixture of the fifth round of Ligue 1, with Hakimi unavailable after being forced off during Paris Saint-Germain’s match against Brest.

The Morocco international was substituted after 39 minutes in that game, having sustained what the club described as a minor injury to his right thigh.

Paris Saint-Germain confirmed the problem in a statement on its official website earlier this week.

“Achraf Hakimi will undergo treatment over the next two days, with a further medical update to be provided at the end of that period,” the club said on Monday.

His absence from the squad for the meeting with Olympique de Marseille suggests the injury has required more recovery time than initially expected.

Hakimi had started all seven of Paris Saint-Germain’s matches this season before the injury. His appearances have included four Ligue 1 games, the French Super Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the opening league-phase fixture in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old right-back was also included in the Morocco squad announced by head coach Mohamed Ouahbi for this month’s matches against Gabon and Lesotho.
