Saudi Arabia drop Musab Al-Juwair from Gulf Cup squad for disciplinary reasons

Saudi Arabia have removed midfielder Musab Al-Juwair from their training camp in Jeddah before the Gulf Cup 27 for disciplinary reasons.

The Saudi Football Federation did not specify the nature of the disciplinary issue, according to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiya.

Saudi head coach Georgios Donis has called up Mukhtar Ali to replace Al-Juwair in the squad.

The national team began its training camp on Thursday as it prepared for the tournament, which will be held in Jeddah from 23 September to 6 October.

Saudi Arabia announced their 26-man squad on Wednesday. The selection does not include Lens defender Saud Abdulhamid, who has not recovered from injury, while captain Salem Al-Dawsari is also absent because of an injury.

Saudi Arabia will play Iraq, Kuwait and Oman in Group A.

The squad is:

Goalkeepers: Mohammed Al-Owais, Hamed Yusuf, Nawaf Al-Aqidi.

Defenders: Abdullah Al-Amri, Hassan Kadesh, Rayan Hamed, Jihad Zikri, Mutab Al-Harbi, Hassan Al-Tambakti, Mohammed Mahzari, Nawaf Boushal, Zakaria Hawsawi.

Midfielders: Ziyad Al-Jahni, Mohammed Al-Qahtani, Mukhtar Ali, Mohammed Kanno, Alaa Haji, Nasser Al-Dawsari, Abdullah Al-Khaibari.

Forwards: Saleh Abu Al-Shamat, Hummam Al-Hamami, Abdullah Al-Salem, Firas Al-Buraikan, Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat, Sultan Mendash, Abdullah Al-Hamdan.

The Gulf Cup 27 will take place in Jeddah between 23 September and 6 October.
