Andros Townsend escapes injury after being run over by pitch-leveling machine in Thailand

Former Tottenham and Everton winger Andros Townsend escaped serious injury after being struck and run over by a pitch-leveling machine during a warm-up in Thailand.

The 35-year-old former England player was preparing to join his team-mates for the second half when the unusual incident occurred on Saturday.

Footage showed the driver appearing to struggle to control the machine as Townsend kicked a ball away without looking in its direction. The vehicle then collided with him, knocking him to the ground before passing over his legs and lower body.

The incident prompted gasps from spectators, but Townsend was able to get back to his feet and leave the area without suffering an injury.

He later returned to the match as a substitute in the closing minutes, helping PT Prachuap complete a 3-0 victory.

Townsend, who has since worked as a television analyst, joined PT Prachuap during the summer transfer window for a new spell in professional football.

During the break, he had been in the United States covering the World Cup for ITV. He also attracted attention during the tournament for some of his food choices.

Townsend later shared video of the incident on his Instagram account. Polymarket Sports also posted footage on social media on 19 September 2026, describing the player as having been fortunate to avoid injury during the Thai League warm-up.
