Matias Soule frustrated by Roma’s draw with Inter despite praising ‘stronger’ opponents

Matias Soule said he was frustrated after Roma surrendered a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw with Inter, but acknowledged that the Nerazzurri have been the stronger side in recent years.

Soule’s comments came after an eventful Serie A meeting between the teams in the fifth round of the season. Roma led 2-0 before Inter fought back to claim a point.

“I feel tired and a little frustrated because we were 2-0 up, but drawing with Inter is still very good,” the Argentina international told DAZN.

“Inter have been stronger than us for a few years. There is disappointment, but we have the motivation to keep going because this is still a very long championship.”

Soule also said he was now fully fit after struggling with a physical problem last season.

“I feel very good physically. The pain in my pubic area has completely disappeared, although things were difficult last season,” he added.

The result extended a recurring pattern for Inter, who have conceded two-goal leads in each of their past four matches. They have recovered to win two of those games, while losing to Real Madrid and drawing with Roma.

It was also the sixth occasion since Cristian Chivu became Inter manager that the club had fallen two goals behind in a league match and avoided defeat.

The draw continued to underline Gian Piero Gasperini’s difficult record against Inter. The Roma manager has now failed to beat the club in 18 consecutive matches, losing 12 and drawing six.

Gasperini’s most recent victory over Inter came in 2018, when he was in charge of Atalanta and guided them to a 4-1 win.

Lautaro moved clear as Inter’s third-highest scorer in Serie A, reaching 135 goals. He is now three goals behind second-placed Benito Lorenzi.

Roma and Inter both moved to 13 points after the match, with Roma remaining top of the table on goal difference.
