Al Ahli Saudi have no plans to sack head coach Marino Pusic despite growing criticism following their 2-1 defeat by South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the Club World Cup.
The result has intensified debate over the Dutch manager’s future, with Al Ahli supporters expressing anger at the team’s performances under his leadership and calling on the club’s management to dismiss him.
However, Saudi programme Nadina reported that the club’s board was not considering Pusic’s dismissal in any circumstances, despite reports suggesting his position was under threat. Instead, the management intends to continue giving him its support.
The board is concerned that removing Pusic prematurely would be the wrong decision, particularly because he has had little time to work with the squad. The Dutchman took charge of Al Ahli only a few days before the start of the season.
Al Ahli are enduring a difficult period, having suffered three league defeats before their exit from the Club World Cup. Those results have led to continuing concern and frustration among the club’s supporters.
