Salah hat-trick inspires Trabzonspor to emphatic Galatasaray victory

Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick and created another goal as Trabzonspor defeated Galatasaray 4-0 in a commanding home win.

The result moved Trabzonspor up to 10 points in fifth place, three points behind leaders Galatasaray, who remain on 13 points.

The match was also the first in charge for Trabzonspor’s new manager, Thomas Reis.

Salah opened the scoring after only four minutes, collecting a pass from Mustafa Eskihellac before racing through from inside his own half and finishing past the goalkeeper.

He almost doubled his tally five minutes later when he dribbled past several defenders, but his shot went narrowly wide.

Galatasaray goalkeeper Onana then needed the help of the crossbar to keep out a powerful effort from Ismaila Jacobs.

Trabzonspor extended their advantage two minutes later, with Savio converting a fine low finish after being set up by Salah.

Salah added his second in the 44th minute. Frankolino Djo took advantage of an error by Davinson Sanchez before finding Salah in front of goal, leaving him with a straightforward finish.

Galatasaray attempted to respond after the interval, but Trabzonspor maintained control and prevented the visitors from finding a way back into the match.

Salah completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute after being released by Ozan Tufan, sealing his first treble since joining Trabzonspor.

His previous club hat-trick came in October 2022, when he scored three times for Liverpool against Rangers in the UEFA Champions League.

Salah’s most recent hat-trick overall came for Egypt against Djibouti on 16 November 2023 in a World Cup qualifier.

The latest goals took his total to seven in the Turkish league this season and put him top of the division’s scoring chart.

Galatasaray were reduced to 10 men in the 86th minute when Leslie Ugochukwu was sent off for a strong challenge on Tufan.

Salah was substituted two minutes later, with Aral Simsir coming on in his place.

Trabzonspor’s next fixture will be against Samsunspor on Saturday 10 October, following the international break.
