Nicolas Jackson celebrates first Aston Villa goal after Tottenham win

Nicolas Jackson says he is delighted to have returned to the Premier League after scoring his first goal for Aston Villa in their 3-2 victory over Tottenham.

The Senegal international was on target as Aston Villa secured their first win of the season in an eventful fifth-round match.

“I am very happy to have scored my first goal, and I am pleased to be back and playing in the Premier League again,” Jackson told the English network BBC.

Johan Manzambi and Emiliano Buendia were also on the scoresheet for Aston Villa, while Conor Gallagher and Jan Paul van Hecke scored Tottenham’s goals.

Jackson said Aston Villa were focused on using the result as a foundation for the rest of the campaign.

“There is still a long way to go, so we are trying to build on what we have achieved,” he said. “We hope to get the results we want and continue working hard.”

He also praised Tottenham despite their difficult start to the season.

“Tottenham have good players and are a great team. I wish them the best, and we will continue working hard,” Jackson added.

The victory lifted Aston Villa from 19th to 15th in the Premier League table, with four points from their opening five matches.

Tottenham, meanwhile, remain without a win after five rounds and have suffered the worst start in the club’s Premier League history.

The defeat also extended Tottenham’s poor home record, with the club having won only two of their past 21 Premier League matches at their own ground.

They now sit in the relegation zone on two points from five games.
