Brighton score three as Arsenal struggle in Premier League encounter

Brighton scored three times to take control against Arsenal, with Pascal Groß, Charalampos Kostoulas and Chema Andres all finding the net in a one-sided second-half spell.

The match was goalless for the opening 30 minutes, although both sides created opportunities. Arsenal attempted to build through short passes in midfield, while Brighton looked for ways to break through their opponents’ defence.

Brighton went close first when Ferdi Kadıoglu struck a powerful effort from outside the penalty area, but his shot went wide. Kai Havertz was then caught offside for Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka tried to make an impact from inside the area, but his effort was blocked. Arsenal also sent a cross towards Riccardo Calafiori, whose header was deflected by the Brighton defence.

Saka later went down inside the penalty area, but the referee decided there had been no foul. Arsenal continued to press for the opening goal, without seriously testing the Brighton goalkeeper.

Brighton eventually took the lead when Pascal Groß fired a powerful shot from outside the area into the net.

The goal prompted further attempts from Brighton to extend their advantage. Yasin Ayari sent an effort from inside the penalty area narrowly wide, while Brighton were shown a yellow card.

Arsenal responded with a counter-attack led by Martin Ødegaard. His shot from the right side of the area was deflected into the path of Saka, whose follow-up was saved by the goalkeeper.

Brighton doubled their advantage before half-time through Charalampos Kostoulas, who found the net with another powerful strike from outside the box.

Arsenal made two substitutions as they sought a route back into the game. The match updates also listed Bruno Guimaraes, Mikel Merino, Jurrien Timber and Martin Zubimendi among the Arsenal players involved.

Brighton began the second half on the front foot and continued to threaten in search of a third goal. Kostoulas went close again with a powerful effort from distance which went just wide, and another Brighton player received a yellow card.

The third goal arrived when Pascal Groß delivered a corner into the Arsenal penalty area. The cross met Chema Andres, who directed his header into the net.

Brighton then continued to look for further goals. Diego Gomez and Ferdi Kadıoglu were among the Brighton players listed in the match updates, along with Yasin Ayari, Charalampos Kostoulas and Pascal Groß.

Arsenal were unable to turn their possession into a clear opening, while Brighton maintained the greater attacking threat after the interval.
