Antoine Mendy undergoes surgery after cruciate ligament rupture

Antoine Mendy has undergone successful surgery after rupturing the cruciate ligament in his left knee, with the OGC Nice defender facing several months on the sidelines.

The 22-year-old Senegal international suffered the injury during Nice’s 1-1 draw with Le Mans at the Allianz Riviera on 5 September.

Mendy was forced to leave the field during the match after sustaining the knee injury, which was later confirmed to be a cruciate ligament rupture.

Nice have now confirmed that the defender has undergone an operation and said the procedure was successful.

“Having suffered a cruciate ligament rupture against Le Mans on September 5th, Antoine Mendy underwent successful surgery this week.

OGC Nice once again offers its full support to Antoine and will do everything possible to assist him at every stage of his recovery, until his return to the pitch.”

The operation marks the beginning of what is expected to be a lengthy rehabilitation period for Mendy.

The Senegalese defender, who has made seven appearances for the Lions, is now facing an extended absence from competitive football.

His injury is a significant setback for both Nice and the player, who will be unavailable for Ligue 1 matches during his recovery.

Mendy is also expected to miss time with the Senegal national team as he works his way back to full fitness.

The defender had been involved with the Lions after earning seven international caps, but his latest injury means he will now spend several months away from the pitch.

Nice will continue to support Mendy throughout his rehabilitation as he works towards making a return to football.

The club said it would assist him at every stage of his recovery until he is ready to play again.

For Mendy, the immediate focus will now be on recovering from the cruciate ligament injury and completing the rehabilitation process.

There is no immediate return date given, with the defender expected to remain sidelined for several months.

The injury came after Mendy was forced off during the 1-1 draw with Le Mans on 5 September, and the successful operation now allows him to begin the next stage of his recovery.

Nice will have to cope without the Senegal international while he works towards returning to the field.
