‘Amazing feeling’ – Mohammed Salisu delighted to return after 258 days out

Mohammed Salisu has described his return to competitive football as an “amazing feeling” after ending a 258-day injury layoff in AS Monaco’s 2-1 victory over Lens on Friday.

The Ghanaian defender made his first appearance of the season when he came on as a stoppage-time substitute in the 90+1st minute.

Salisu had been sidelined since suffering a severe anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in January, which ruled him out for most of the year and forced him to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the Black Stars.

After completing an intensive rehabilitation programme, the 27-year-old finally returned to action and played the closing moments of Monaco’s victory.

Speaking after the match, Salisu expressed his relief at finally getting back on the pitch following a difficult period on the sidelines.

“An amazing feeling. It’s been a long time and it’s been a hard time. I think I’m happy to be back, and I hope I’ll get more minutes,” he said.

The defender’s return comes as a boost for Monaco, who will rely on his defensive qualities as they continue their domestic and European campaigns.

Salisu’s absence had also deprived Ghana of an experienced option at centre-back during the World Cup.

His return now gives him the opportunity to gradually regain his rhythm and fitness as he targets more playing time with Monaco and a return to the Black Stars setup.
