Women’s U20 World Cup: South Korea face Italy as Brazil meet Spain in quarter-finals

The Women’s U20 World Cup reaches the quarter-final stage on Saturday, 19 September, with South Korea facing Italy and Brazil taking on Spain in Poland.

South Korea secured their place in the last eight with a 1-0 victory over Argentina. Italy needed a penalty shoot-out to overcome China after their tie finished 1-1, winning 5-4 on penalties.

The match will mark Italy’s first quarter-final appearance at the Women’s U20 World Cup. Their return to the competition comes after a 14-year absence.

Spain will meet Brazil in the other quarter-final after both sides successfully negotiated the group stage without defeat.

Spain produced a perfect group campaign, winning all three matches and scoring 16 goals. They then beat Portugal 2-0 in the round of 16 to continue their progress.

Brazil also went unbeaten in the group stage before eliminating the United States on penalties in their last-16 tie. The match ended 1-1, with Brazil advancing after a 5-4 shoot-out victory.

Spain are aiming to reach the semi-finals for the third time, while Brazil will look to extend their run ahead of the senior Women’s World Cup, which they will host in 2027.
