Egypt begin preparations for Angola and South Sudan with Pyramids trio on recovery programme

Egypt held their second training session at the National Teams Centre on Sunday as they continued preparations for their opening two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Hossam Hassan’s side will face Angola and South Sudan on 25 and 29 September respectively, in the first and second rounds of qualifying for the tournament.

The session, led by Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan, began with physical warm-ups before the coaching staff put the players through a series of tactical exercises. The training ended with a practice match.

Mustafa Shobeir, El Mahdy Soliman, Mohamed Alaa, Abdelaziz Elbalouty, Mohamed Hany, Ahmed Fattouh, Marwan Attia, Ahmed Sayed Zizo, Emam Ashour, Ali Mahmoud, Mostafa Ziko and Mahmoud Saber took part in the session.

Pyramids trio Karim Hafez, Mohand Lasheen and Tarek Alaa followed a recovery programme instead.

The practice match saw the team featuring Hossam Hassan, El Mahdy Soliman, Mohamed Hany, Emam Ashour, Mostafa Ziko and Saber defeat the side made up of Mohamed Abdelwahed, Mohamed Alaa, Elbalouty, Ahmed Fattouh, Zizo and Ali Mahmoud.

Nine overseas-based players are expected to join the national team camp over 21 and 22 September, according to information obtained by FilGoal.com.

Egypt Football Association president Hany Abou Rida attended the training session, along with board member Hamada El Sherbiny and the association’s secretary-general, Mostafa Azzam.

Egypt are scheduled to train again at the National Teams Centre at 21:00 on Monday.

After their qualifying matches against Angola and South Sudan, Egypt will play South Africa in a friendly on 4 October.
