Raphinha wants new Barcelona contract and hopes to retire at club

Brazil winger Raphinha says he wants to extend his Barcelona contract and remain with the Catalan club until the end of his playing career.

The 28-year-old’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2028, but he says he is already planning to sign a new agreement.

“I hope to continue as a Barcelona player until the end of my career,” Raphinha told Catalan radio station RAC. “I am planning to sign a new contract with the club and hope to stay here until I retire.”

Raphinha joined Barcelona from English club Leeds United in the summer of 2022. Since making the move, he has played 184 matches for the Spanish side, scoring 86 goals and providing 62 assists.

He has also become Barcelona’s first-choice captain following the departure of German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who joined Ajax on loan.

Raphinha currently leads the La Liga scoring charts with nine goals. He is two goals clear of Barcelona team-mate Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe.

Barcelona sit top of La Liga with 18 points after winning all six of their matches so far.

Their next fixture is away to Sevilla on Saturday in the seventh round of the league season.
