Al Ahly deny plans to appoint sporting director

Al Ahly have denied reports that the club are considering appointing a sporting director, describing the claims as entirely untrue.

In an official statement, the club said: “There is no proposal of any kind to appoint a sporting director. Everything that has been reported on this matter is completely devoid of truth. Credibility requires an apology to everyone who covered this false news.”

Al Ahly previously abolished the sporting director role.

Yassin Mansour, the club’s vice-president, and board member Sayed Abdel Hafiz currently oversee football affairs at Al Ahly.

The club are due to begin their Egypt Capital Cup group-stage campaign against Petrol Asyut on 8 October.

They will then face Cairo rivals Zamalek in the derby after the international break.

Al Ahly are third in the Egyptian Premier League table with 13 points, behind second-placed Zamalek on goal difference. Pyramids lead the standings with a perfect 15 points.
