Moloisane urges Kaizer Chiefs to close gap before FIFA break

Kaizer Chiefs defender Thabo Moloisane says his side must return to winning ways against Golden Arrows on Sunday to keep pace with the leading teams in the league.

Chiefs will play at a neutral venue, Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga, in their final match before next week’s international break.

The club dropped points in a 1-1 draw with Polokwane City last week. That result allowed AmaZulu to move above them into third place, leaving Chiefs fourth in the table.

Moloisane, who represents Bafana Bafana, says victory would ease the pressure on Chiefs and prevent them from falling further behind the teams above them.

“It’s gonna be extremely important for us to get three points, we’ve played two draws in games that we should have won and especially now that we are going to the FIFA break,” Moloisane said.

“It will be extremely important for us to continue the FIFA break with three points and it will take a bit of pressure off our shoulders knowing that we are keeping up with the teams that are on top of the league.”

Chiefs will be without captain and first-choice goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, who suffered an injury during training earlier this week.

Moloisane, however, believes the club has sufficient cover in Bruce Bvuma and Renaldo Leaner and says there is no cause for concern within the squad.

“Firstly, I just wish for Biza for him to get well soon and secondly, I think in the goalkeeping department we have capable guys, Bruce [Bvuma] is there, Renaldo [Leaner] is there as well. So, we are not panicking at all,” he added.

“One goal is to make sure that the team wins and to make sure that we support one another. So, we are definitely not panicking at all, everyone is just as capable as the other.”

Chiefs’ immediate objective is therefore to secure three points against Golden Arrows before the FIFA break, while attempting to regain third place and reduce the distance between themselves and the teams at the top.
