Barcelona’s prolific attack puts Sevilla record under pressure

Barcelona’s remarkable scoring form and strong recent record against Sevilla will be tested when the sides meet on Saturday in matchday seven of La Liga.

According to Opta, Barcelona have won eight of their past nine league games against Sevilla. Their only defeat in that run came in October 2025, when Sevilla won 4-1.

Barcelona have scored at least once in each of their past 12 away league matches against Sevilla, finding the net 29 times in total. Sevilla did win the most recent meeting at their home ground, also by a 4-1 scoreline in October 2025, having gone nine previous matches without beating Barcelona, with three draws and six defeats.

However, Sevilla have not won consecutive home league matches against Barcelona since 2007, when they achieved back-to-back victories under manager Juande Ramos.

Barcelona have lost only two of their past 20 away games against Andalusian clubs in La Liga. They have won 13 and drawn five of the other 18 matches.

The first of those defeats was a 1-0 loss to Almeria in February 2023, when Xavi and Rubi were in charge of Barcelona and Almeria respectively. The second was the 4-1 defeat by Sevilla in October 2025, with Hansi Flick and Matias Almeyda managing the teams.

Barcelona have scored 28 goals in La Liga this season, their highest-ever total after six matches. Only Sevilla have recorded more at this stage, scoring 32 after their opening six games in 1940-41, the highest total in the competition’s history after that number of fixtures.

Sevilla have taken 13 points from their first six matches this season, with four wins, one draw and one defeat. That matches their best start since 2017-18, when they also collected 13 points before finishing seventh.

Barcelona have scored four or more goals in each of their past three away league matches. They have not achieved that in four successive away games since November 2012, during Tito Vilanova’s time as manager.

Sevilla have launched more open-play attacks from the attacking third than any other La Liga side this season, with 221. Barcelona lead the competition for attacks involving at least nine passes, with 166. They also top the figures for shots following such moves, with 126, and goals scored from them, with 26.

Raphinha has contributed directly to 12 league goals in 2026-27, scoring nine and providing three assists. Lamine Yamal has nine goal contributions, including seven goals and two assists. Together, they are the most productive attacking duo in Europe’s five major leagues this season.

Raphinha has scored more La Liga goals against Sevilla than any other opponent, with six. He has contributed at least one goal or assist in five of his six league appearances against them, recording six goals and two assists, including a hat-trick in the teams’ most recent meeting in February this year.

Sevilla manager Luis Garcia has lost his past eight La Liga matches against Barcelona, his longest run of defeats against a single opponent in the competition.
