Cristiano Ronaldo named in Portugal squad by Jorge Jesus

Jorge Jesus has selected Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal’s squad for the next international break, giving the forward the chance to continue his international career after the 2026 World Cup.

Portugal’s tournament ended in the last 16 with a 1-0 defeat by Spain. The result brought Ronaldo’s World Cup campaign to a close after he had previously said the competition would be his final appearance at the tournament.

However, the 2026 World Cup marked the end of Ronaldo’s participation in the competition rather than his international career. The 41-year-old has not announced his retirement from Portugal, and Jesus has now included him in the squad for the upcoming international fixtures.

The decision allows Ronaldo to begin another chapter with the national team, although no further details about Portugal’s schedule during the international break were provided.

Jesus’ squad is:

Goalkeepers: Diogo Costa, Rui Silva, Samuel Soares.

Defenders: Joao Cancelo, Diogo Dalot, Ruben Dias, Tomas Araujo, Renato Veiga, Goncalo Inacio, Nuno Mendes, Nuno Tavares.

Midfielders: Joao Palhinha, Ruben Neves, Vitinha, Joao Neves, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes.

Forwards: Francisco Conceicao, Francisco Trincao, Rafael Leao, Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, Cristiano Ronaldo, Goncalo Ramos, Fabio Silva.
