The Egyptian Football Association’s board has reportedly approached former Al Ahly coach, Mohamed Youssef, to lead the national youth team born in 2008, replacing Ahmed Al-Kas, who is said to be on track for a role as general coach in Hossam Hassan’s staff.
Last Sunday, the Football Association had announced the appointment of Mohamed Youssef as a general coach for the senior national team, alongside a foreign technical director, but later retracted the decision, officially confirming the Hassan twins’ leadership of the national team.
Mohamed Youssef, born on October 9, 1970, has carved out a remarkable career in Egyptian football, both with Al Ahly and the national team.
He donned the red shirt of Al Ahly for the first time in the 1989-1990 season.
Youssef represented the Olympic team at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, clinching the African Cup of Nations title in Burkina Faso in 1998. He also participated in the Confederations Cup in Mexico in 1999.
With Youssef’s extensive experience and deep knowledge of Egyptian football, his potential appointment as the coach for the 2008 youth team underscores the Football Association’s commitment to nurturing young talent and maintaining a strong pipeline of players for the national team.
Youssef’s decision to step down from his previous role, coupled with the impending announcement of his new position within the national team setup, marks an important development in Egyptian football as it looks to build on its successes and usher in a new era of growth and achievement.
