Mosimane confirms Bafana Bafana will appoint goalkeeper coach

Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane says the team will appoint a goalkeeper coach, although the role could initially be filled on a part-time basis.

Mosimane is continuing to finalise his technical staff after replacing Hugo Broos as head coach. He has already added performance analyst Musi Matlaba and fitness and conditioning coach Kabelo Rangoaga to his setup, with both also holding coaching qualifications.

Former Botswana national team head coach Morena Ramoreboli has also joined the staff as Mosimane’s assistant.

The goalkeeper coach position became vacant following the departure of Grant Johnson. Mosimane said the South African Football Association had begun the process of finding a replacement, but that the appointment had not yet been announced.

“We will have the goalkeeper coach, we will call them when the time comes,” said Mosimane.

He explained that discussions with clubs were necessary because some members of the technical team would not work with Bafana Bafana on a full-time basis.

“You must also understand, some of these people are not full time. We negotiate with clubs, make sure they are available,” he said.

Mosimane added that letters had already been sent to possible candidates, with further details to be made public once the arrangements had been completed.

“We have sent a few call-up letters. When the time is right, we will tell you same as what we did with coach Morena,” he said.

The coach stressed that the position would definitely be filled, despite the delay in confirming the appointment.

“If you jump the gun early and then…so we will have a goalkeeper coach, that’s 100%. You can’t have goalkeepers without a goalkeeper coach,” said Mosimane.

He also reiterated that the members of his staff could have different working arrangements, with Matlaba and Rangoaga currently the exceptions because they are permanently involved with him.

“But as we know, all these guys are part timers, these ones [Kabelo Rangoaga and Musi Matlaba] are always with me,” he said.
