Ligue 1 Burkina Faso: champions set to receive 25m FCFA as new season begins

Ligue 1 Burkina Faso returns on Friday, 18 September 2026, with the 2026-27 season beginning amid renewed competition for the title, European places and survival.

Eight matches will be played across the opening weekend, with every fixture scheduled to kick off at 15:30.

AS SONABEL-Majestic SC will open the campaign against each other on Friday at the CNT/FBF. Saturday’s programme features ASFA-Y against USCO, AS Maaya at home to USFA, Focus Sport versus AS Douanes and Sporting FC against CFFEB.

The remaining four fixtures will take place on Sunday. Salitas FC face ASFB, RCK play Vitesse FC, and Rahimo FC host Real du Faso at Stade Wobi in Bobo-Dioulasso.

The season also brings a significant increase in the financial rewards available to clubs. At the Federation burkinabe de football’s general assembly last week, it was confirmed that prize money for the championships had been doubled.

The Ligue 1 champions will now receive 25 million FCFA, compared with 12.5 million FCFA previously. That represents a 100% increase in the reward for the winners.

Club subsidies have also been raised, adding further financial significance to a campaign expected to produce a closely contested battle at the top and in the fight to avoid relegation.
