CAF president Patrice Motsepe arrives in Kenya to assess AFCON 2027 preparations

CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe has arrived in Nairobi as part of his tour of the three countries co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Motsepe was received by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed following his arrival in the Kenyan capital on Friday.

The visit forms part of CAF’s assessment of preparations for the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania under the Pamoja 2027 project.

Motsepe is expected to engage with the Kenyan media during his visit and inspect infrastructure and other ongoing preparations for the tournament.

His visit comes as the three host nations step up work to ensure they are ready to stage Africa’s biggest football competition next year.

On Thursday, Motsepe was in Tanzania, where he addressed the media and inspected facilities and ongoing works linked to the country’s preparations for AFCON 2027.

The CAF president’s tour is expected to provide an opportunity to assess progress across the three host countries and engage with key stakeholders involved in the organisation of the tournament.

Kenya’s preparations have included work on stadiums, training facilities and other tournament-related infrastructure, with CAF continuing to monitor developments ahead of the competition.

The 2027 AFCON will be the first edition of the tournament to be jointly hosted by three East African countries.

CAF has previously stressed the importance of ensuring that the host nations meet the required standards in areas including stadium infrastructure, training facilities, accommodation, transport and other logistical arrangements.

After Kenya, Motsepe is expected to continue his engagements as CAF assesses preparations across the Pamoja 2027 host nations.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in 2027, with Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania preparing to welcome Africa’s leading national teams for the continent’s premier football competition.
