Cristiano Ronaldo’s role in potential Al-Nassr takeover remains unclear

Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence from the latest talks over a possible takeover of Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr has raised questions about whether the Portugal captain still intends to become involved in the club’s ownership.

Reports from Portugal previously linked Ronaldo with a joint venture involving several investors and organisations seeking to acquire Al-Nassr. Such a deal would have given the forward a role extending beyond his contribution on the pitch, allowing him to participate in the club’s long-term investment plans.

However, a report by Al-Riyadiyah says a newly formed consortium is now leading discussions over the purchase of a stake in Al-Nassr’s club company. The group includes a local investment fund and potential investors, among them the American company RedBird, as well as Saudi Al-Wasail and businessman Ibrahim Al-Muhideb.

The consortium is seeking an agreement with the Public Investment Fund (PIF), which owns the club company, according to the report.

Negotiations between the investment group, Saudi investors and PIF have become more active in recent weeks. The parties are aiming to complete the acquisition of a stake in Al-Nassr by the end of the current season.

Ronaldo’s name was not mentioned as part of the consortium currently involved in the negotiations. That omission has revived questions about the future of the ownership project with which the Al-Nassr captain had previously been associated.

It does not necessarily mean Ronaldo has withdrawn from a potential investment. No official information has confirmed that he has abandoned the idea or formally ended his involvement. Nevertheless, the latest developments have brought renewed attention to his position.

Further reports have suggested Ronaldo may now be less open to investing in Al-Nassr, amid internal issues and other problems currently affecting the club. His final position has not been announced officially.

RedBird, led by Jerry Cardinal, owns AC Milan and Toulouse outright. The American company also holds a stake of more than 10% in Liverpool, giving the proposed consortium significant experience in sports investment and club management.

Attention is now focused on the ongoing negotiations over Al-Nassr’s ownership structure, while Ronaldo’s position remains the least certain part of the situation. His absence from the group identified by Al-Riyadiyah has prompted questions over whether his plans have changed.

It remains possible that Ronaldo’s omission is only a temporary development while the negotiations continue. It may also indicate that the takeover project previously associated with him has entered a new phase involving different parties. Further discussions and developments are expected to clarify the situation.
