Igor Tudor emerges as leading candidate for Venezia job after winless Serie A start

Igor Tudor, the former Tottenham manager, has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Giovanni Stroppa at Venezia, according to Italian channel Sport Italia.

Venezia are reportedly close to dismissing Stroppa after failing to win any of their opening four matches in Serie A. The newly promoted side are bottom of the table without a point.

Stroppa guided Venezia to promotion from the second tier, securing their return to Italy’s top flight. However, the team have made a difficult start to life back in Serie A, with the league’s worst defensive record.

Venezia have conceded 11 goals in their four matches, while only one team has scored fewer than their total of four goals.

Tudor is understood to be the first choice among the candidates being considered by Venezia as the club weigh up a change in manager.

The Croatian’s most recent role was at Tottenham, where he took charge of five matches last season. He collected only one point during that spell before the club subsequently decided to dismiss him.

A move to Venezia would represent Tudor’s fifth coaching position in Serie A. He has previously managed Udinese, Hellas Verona, Juventus and Lazio in Italy.
