El Nasr condemn ‘violent assaults’ after Tanta match in Professional League

El Nasr have condemned what they described as “violent assaults” on their players following their 1-0 defeat by Tanta in the fifth round of the Professional League.

Tanta secured victory at Tanta Stadium through Mohamed Mohsen Shika’s goal in the 37th minute. However, the match ended in controversy after clashes broke out between the two teams following the final whistle.

In a statement, El Nasr’s board said: “El Nasr’s board of directors condemns the regrettable events that took place at Tanta Stadium.”

The club claimed that Tanta players, supported by members of the coaching and administrative staff and stadium security personnel, attacked El Nasr’s players immediately after the referee brought the game to an end.

“With the referee’s final whistle, Tanta’s players, supported by members of the technical and administrative staff and stadium security personnel, rushed to assault El Nasr’s players violently,” the statement said.

El Nasr added that police officers had intervened to prevent the confrontation from continuing.

“Had it not been for the intervention of the police to stop the barbaric attacks, which were far removed from the spirit of sportsmanship, the assaults would have continued, despite Tanta winning with a penalty whose validity was questionable,” the club said.

El Nasr called on the competition and refereeing committees to take action against those responsible.

“El Nasr urges the competition and refereeing committees to hold the offender and aggressor accountable,” the statement concluded.

The result lifted Tanta to 10th place with seven points, while El Nasr remained on six points.
