UFOA A U17: Senegal take half-time lead against Guinea

Senegal lead Guinea in the semi-final of the UFOA A U17 tournament after Moussa Ndiaye’s early header gave them control of the contest.

The match began at a fast pace, with both sides attacking from the opening exchanges. Senegal were the first to threaten in and around the Guinea penalty area, and took advantage of a set-piece opportunity after 15 minutes.

Maguette Gueye delivered the free-kick from close to the technical area. Guinea’s defence failed to deal with the ball decisively, while goalkeeper Oumar Konate hesitated as he came off his line.

That uncertainty allowed Ndiaye to meet the delivery with a firm header and beat Konate at the near post. The goal lifted Senegal, who went on to dominate much of the play during the first half.

Guinea improved during the final 10 minutes and began putting pressure on the Senegal defence in search of an equaliser. Salif Camara, Boubacar Diallo and Alpha Camara all tested Senegal, but each effort was dealt with by goalkeeper Assane Sarr.

Senegal therefore go into the interval with the advantage, although Guinea remain within reach of a comeback in the second half.
