Nyamekye Awortwie-Grant has stepped up his recovery at SC Paderborn 07 after returning to individual pitch work on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old centre-back has been managing knee problems and still requires time before he can rejoin full team training.

His latest session marked an important step, but Paderborn will not rush him back into action. Awortwie-Grant remains unavailable for Sunday’s home match against TSG Hoffenheim, giving him the forthcoming international break to continue increasing his workload.

Head coach Ralf Kettemann has identified the period after the break as the target for the defender’s next significant milestone. “For both, the idea is that they return fully to team training after the international break,” Kettemann said, referring to Awortwie-Grant and Lasse Eickel, who is also completing individual work after back problems.

The extended pause should allow Awortwie-Grant to progress without the immediate pressure of match selection. If his rehabilitation proceeds as expected, he will return to unrestricted sessions and put himself back in contention for Paderborn’s squad.

The club will monitor his response closely in the coming weeks, with fitness and stability remaining the priority before he is cleared for a competitive return.
