Nnamdi Collins faces Eintracht Frankfurt fitness test

Eintracht Frankfurt could turn to Nnamdi Collins after Jeremiaha Maluze’s injury created a defensive vacancy, but head coach Adi Hutter remains cautious about selecting him from the start against SC Freiburg.

The 22-year-old is available again following a six-week injury lay-off, yet his readiness for a demanding Bundesliga match is still being assessed.

“Collins could possibly be used from the beginning,” Hutter said at Thursday’s press conference. “Nevertheless, we must not forget that he was out for six weeks.”

Collins has impressed since returning to training, although the coach will make a final decision closer to kick-off. “He is doing very well at the moment. We have to see whether he is ultimately an option,” Hutter added.

Frankfurt also have Otavio as a possible defensive alternative, though the recent signing is still adapting. That situation could lead Hütter to alter the team’s system for the weekend, potentially moving away from a back three to a four-man defensive line.

The tactical decision will influence whether Collins starts, features from the bench or is held back longer. Frankfurt must balance the need to replace Maluze with protecting a player still rebuilding match fitness.
