Jens Wissing rejects Borussia Monchengladbach approach to remain with Al-Ittihad

Jens Wissing has turned down an approach from Borussia Monchengladbach because he wants to continue his work as manager of Al-Ittihad Saudi Club.

The German club contacted Wissing to discuss the possibility of him taking charge, as they considered several options for leading the team in the next stage.

According to German newspaper Bild, Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Rouven Schroder approached Wissing through an intermediary. The discussions were part of the club’s search for a new manager, but Wissing has now made clear that he will not take up the opportunity.

Wissing’s decision is based on the timing of the proposal and his commitment to the project he is developing with Al-Ittihad. He believes leaving at this stage would not fit with his plans and would prefer to remain with the Saudi Arabian club in the coming period.

The German coach is understood to have no desire to depart while the project is still at an early stage. Since taking charge, he has been working to build a team capable of competing for honours and reaching the objectives established at the beginning of his tenure.

His immediate focus is on continuing that process and helping Al-Ittihad return to contention for trophies. Wissing has started to introduce his tactical ideas and establish a clear identity for the team, and he wants to see that work develop further.

The decision means Wissing will not return to Germany despite Borussia Monchengladbach’s interest. Rather than ending the project to take on a new challenge in the Bundesliga, he has chosen to stay with Al-Ittihad and concentrate on the club’s objectives.

Borussia Monchengladbach’s approach reflects the German club’s assessment of Wissing’s coaching ability. However, the manager has settled on remaining in Saudi Arabia for now, prioritising the continued construction of his team over a move back to the German league.
